What is the optimum viewing distance for the KMQ prism viewer?

The mirror based over/under 3-D viewers can be manually adjusted to fit most viewing distances.
With the prism viewer KMQ SSG1b, its fixed optical spreading of left/right eyesights (19deg) means that you have to measure the vertical distance of the stereo pair and then multiply by 4.5 to get the optimum viewing distance (paper or screen to viewer).

Why does the new "any LCD" kit have 5 holes ?

An early adopter asked me about the 4 small extra holes in the laser cut acrylic frame of the new kit. Yeah - I forgot to mention that this design is also meant to be mounted on strings infront of over/under paintings and big 3-D prints inkjetted to canvas. Remember - the bigger the picture pair, the bigger the sweet spot distance to view from with the KMQ viewer.
As a local printing service in Berlin/Germany for fine art digital canvas printing I recommend Whitewall.
I'm still looking for digital artists and stereo photographers to exhibit their work in this all new form.

New DIY Kits for download and to buy

The Kit1/2 packages I designed last year came with laser cutting layouts to produce three different sizes, but the sold kits were shipped with the biggest (one-size-fits-all).
The download area now also has a kit1b and kit2b with three sizes and the kit2b extends kit2 by a second WiiCage. You can now place your WiiRemote on top of your LCD or on your desk.
The shop also brings the new (b) versions with washable foam strips for the optional head rest fixtures.

After laser cutting 6 prototypes, early adopters received first openKMQkit2 samples

Version 0.6 of the open hardware add-on to the long prooved prism stereo viewing device from KMQ was realeased.

This marks the begin of the first of (planned) three project phases :
  • providing a free basic hardware design
  • adding fixed distant stereo viewing to as many open source and commercial 3D apps.
  • merging the superior technologies of KMQ and WiiRemote by implementing headtracking true stereo AppGUIs and a Combiz desktop interface.
Samples have been sent to early adopters who want to extend their applications with high quality / low budget Stereo3D viewing.

Enthuisiasts are invited to spread the news, do coding and enhance/manufacture/sell the hardware designs.
